Mysore has been consistently ranked as one of the cleanest cities by the Swachh Survekshan conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. In fact, it topped the rankings consecutively in 2015 and 2016 and continues to be in the top ten in 2018.
The civic authorities of Mysore and its highly committed residents rigorously have put into practice the methods necessary for achieving the coveted levels of cleanliness set by the Ministry.
Waste Segregation
The Mysuru City Corporation through Public Private Partnership raised awareness for its mission of zero waste. Citizens were trained to segregate waste and door-to-door collection of waste made subject to dry waste and wet waste being segregated at source.
Solid Waste Management
Each day, 400-450 tons of solid waste is generated and collected by 2400 civic workers from 65 wards. It is then transported to sewage farms and composting unit by tractors, compactors, and scores of trucks and auto tippers.
To eliminate the risks of landfill, the corporation has signed a MoU with a private company to procure all the dry, non-biodegradable waste in the city directly from the civic workers each of whom is paid ₹100 per day per 100 kg of dry waste that they collect and sell.
Open-Defecation Free City
The corporation has also taken some tough steps: it has refused to sanction new layout plans without underground sewage disposal capabilities. Simultaneously, it has constructed toilets in public places with the help of CSR funds in order to keep the city open-defecation-free.
Committed Citizens
In public spaces, citizens’ engagement has ensured the success of these initiatives for keeping the city garbage free and open-defecation-free.
From launching eco clubs in schools to creating social media groups for an effective feedback and response system, the corporation has effectively involved locals. It is their active participation in keeping the city clean that has helped bring it these accolades.
Quality of Life in a Clean City
Apart from being garbage free, Mysore is one of the least polluted cities. Its rich history has left behind an enormous cultural legacy. Magnificent palaces, gardens, and temples dot its landscape, making it an important tourist destination. Residents enjoy its laid-back pace, lack of traffic difficulties, serene lifestyle and healthy surroundings.
Residence in a City to Be Proud Of
Its quality of life and low cost of living makes Mysore an attractive choice for residential property. The Bangalore based Eminence Group has chosen Mysore for some of its superlative construction projects in sylvan localities. Their apartments are not only stylish in design and replete with ultra-modern amenities, but they are a testament to the group’s stated commitment to creating “a sense of happiness that each and every person who lives in our homes can partake of.”
A home in Mysore, whose continued status as one of the cleanest cities is a matter of civic pride for both public authorities and residents, is bound to heighten that sense of happiness.
